Thought for the Day

Notice and begin to appreciate the fact
that dogs do not apologize.

Quoted from "How to Break Up a Dogfight" in Thomas's wonderful memoir A Three Dog Night (Harcourt, 2006).

Thomas, daughter of Lewis Thomas (Lives of a Cell) also is the author of Safekeeping: Some True Stories from a Life (Anchor, Reprint, 2007) and Thinking About Memoir (Sterling, 2008), among other books. She also "make[s] paintings", although she sells only prints of them; see her work here and here

Many of her paintings remind me of the scenes I see when I look out at the woods.

So weird...this weekend, we went away to a cabin. I brought two books: Lives of a Cell and A Book of Silence (your recommendation, wasn't it? Thank you!).
