Wednesday Wonder: Telephone Assembly

Anyone in search of wonder knows to take a tour through the Prelinger Archives, a collection of more than 60,000 advertising, education, industrial, and amateur films. Here's an example: a 10-minute stop-motion animation — Just Imagine (Jam Handy Organization for Bell System, 1947) — featuring "Tommy Telephone", AT&T's advertising "spokescreature", and the 433 separate parts needed to assemble a free-standing rotary-dial telephone. Remember it?

My thanks to the Internet Archive and The Public Domain Review for today's feature.
