Family Ties (Poem)

Family Ties

What ties us
one to the other
are not deep roots, nor the dark
earthen plots that seed
the patterns of our blessed mendings,
but the lines of thread we draw
unequal to the lengths we go,
and too-small buttons
that gather bits of textured cloth
so tight we have no space
to trace the back-and-forth
of that old and rusty needle
through our hearts.

What a beautiful poem! It touched my heart and connected me through all the threads that I have sewn and that have stitched me to the hearts of others. Thank you. I would like to follow your blog, but don't see the way to do so.
