Oh thank y... . . . nothing you could possibly want.

Oh thank you, Maureen. This has been a powerful few minutes, listening to Joan read, with the images from the wedding and her walk, and to read your poem, so ripe with detail and poignancy. To be a writer like Didion, to bring us her griefs in these details, is to give us her story in the blood.

I have just received copies of The Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights, and though I could say I look forward to reading them, which is true, I also brace myself for the grief.Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14204074161539605133noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639339699258439249.post-90478931032185293852011-12-06T20:11:53.791-05:002011-12-06T20:11:53.791-05:00I should have written LA Review above.

(All three of those were assigned college reading more years ago than I care to remember.) She also wrote El Salavador and Democracy, both of which I recently re-read, After Henry, Miami, The Last Thing He Wanted, and the very famous The Year of Magical Thinking, which preceded Blue Nights. The list of her magazine articles, plays, etc., is extensive.

If you have the time, I do recommend watching the Ulin interview I mention.Maureenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13290283101378474845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639339699258439249.post-68135847976811981232011-12-06T18:21:33.983-05:002011-12-06T18:21:33.983-05:00nice...i think you have just sold me on a look at ...nice...i think you have just sold me on a look at her book...Brian Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722940075884718007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639339699258439249.post-31351016091477165982011-12-06T18:14:58.627-05:002011-12-06T18:14:58.627-05:00wow..you stirred my appetite to check her out... i...wow..you stirred my appetite to check her out... interesting on bolivia...my daughter just spent a year in La Paz..will ask her if she heard about this.. great write maureen..love the pink like boiled lobster sky...Claudiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03011763027311966186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639339699258439249.post-55684652519906790212011-12-06T16:54:31.870-05:002011-12-06T16:54:31.870-05:00Such a great depiction in your words, nicely done....Such a great depiction in your words, nicely done.Pat Hatthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07745293224202430152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639339699258439249.post-71536745693287079802011-12-06T16:51:39.118-05:002011-12-06T16:51:39.118-05:00You pass along your enthusiasm topped by enough of...You pass along your enthusiasm topped by enough of an aroma of Didion's meaning to you to make one want to read her. I feel sad now that I never have, and thus have lost a bit of this poem's resonance. A very well done mix of smooth description and horrors, sort of all-enveloping ekphrasis on the woman, and on subjects that refract from her for you.hedgewitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13090696134322515899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639339699258439249.post-58396115902847149352011-12-06T15:17:59.253-05:002011-12-06T15:17:59.253-05:00That video brings one to stillness. That video brings one to stillness.S.
