ReplyDeleteI think the truth may be a little more nuanced. Cheap shock, to the sensibilities, is what I think meets Sacks' description. But aesthetic shock, to sense, to understanding - that shock fades too, but it opens a vista that never closes.
ReplyDeleteI like this and have found it to be true in my own life. The art that awakens wonder in me ultimately stays with me and changes me for the better.
