Blurred Vision
Look straight on,
into the eye
looking back
at you, lashes sticky
with a last night's
scum. Hold your gaze
for the second before
a blink releases you
to scud across her
face. Soon enough
she'll turn away
from you.
Light never clears
blurred vision.

ReplyDeleteStellar last line...nice write...
ReplyDeleteExquisitely crafted and exquisitely poignant piece, Maureen. I see so much growth in your work-- just the right blend of restraint and lyrical expression. Lovely intellect brought to bear in this poem as well with the play on the meanings of blurred vision, how we don't see one another... xxxj
ReplyDeleteThis elicits strong emotion in so few lines.

I like how the photo prompt led you closer, to face level. Yes, 'scud' and 'scum' bear much weight in this close brevity.
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent!
