Perception (Poem)

Perception

You hold night tight
in the starred-less sky,

Harvest Moon pressing
its face into the black velvet

curtain. In enough light
we could shade our differences.

Come morning, look over
the blues rippling a mile

out from shore and tell me
where you draw the line,

straight and unerring.

  1. Have been reading this one over & over. I'm especially drawn to "In enough light
we could shade our differences" --I think because of the abysmally divisive political scene in our country. I'm thinking: with the light of open hearts & minds & good will, we could perhaps shade some of those differences.

  2. Wonderful congruence between poem and painting.

Interesting, that "starred-less"! I love the tiny thud of "d" in the middle!

  4. what i like in paintings like this is that they leave so much room for us to fill it with our own imagination and dive beyond the artist's mind..really like what you saw in it maureen

  5. An indigo mood, with stripes of light, and a fluid meld of nature and observer, of feeling and being that's difficult to express, like writing on wind, yet strongly evocative. Lovely, nuanced, and satisfying, Maureen.

  10. exquisite, Maureen-- this makes me think about how we struggle to articulate a sense of the infinite, see permanence in the impermanent-- I too love your diction-- starred-less, Harvest Moon burying her face-- those layers of blue stretching away, so simple-seeming yet such depth of field. The ranges of our mountains, which you can see from a nearby rise, are like that-- you wonder why each is a different blue...xxxj
