is what does not escape
where the center holds
wresting the light, bending
shadow in the grip of dust.
The second before disappearance
is never a no return, more
like orbiting that threshold
that calls to you to feel
yourself going inward once
your energy jet's burned.
The void's so hard to explain.

My inspiration for this poem is the fascinating article "How to Escape From a Black Hole", which appeared in Time Science & Space last month.
You have such an amazing ability to translate something from an idea into visual reality through your words. You always set my mind thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe void's so hard to explain.
ReplyDeleteMany things are, I find. Your poem for one, but that is true of many a great poem and matters little. Your poem grips and suggests and leaves the reader with a sense of something beyond.
the last line is stellar...questions that we will never be able to answer..bkm
ReplyDeletenice job of trying
ReplyDeletethe void is so hard to explain...and i think in some ways we have all experienced it...i have...and it is hard to fill by our own hands....
ReplyDeleteyou paint a vivid picture here and leave one to wonder the aftermath and what may be waiting in the blackhole
ReplyDeleteOoooo. Also, synchronicity: I was just reading about the void via Simone Weil.
ReplyDeleteimpossible to explain to someone that hasn't been there.
ReplyDeletethank you for not having the puzzling puzzle of deciphering the code.
ReplyDeleteLove this - orbiting the rim - there's always the hope it's only a worm hole that slides you to the other side of the universe in just no time at all. Very clever.
