All Art Friday Spotlights

✦ The American edition of Sylvia Plath: Drawings (Faber & Faber, November 2013), edited and with an introduction by Plath's and Ted Hughes's daughter Frieda Hughes, was published last week. In addition to Plath's pen-and-ink drawings, the book, available in print and e-versions, includes letters and diary entries. The illustrations were published originally in the catalogue for a 2011 exhibition at London's Mayor Gallery. The show was the first to offer the public a look at Plath's artwork.

William Faulkner, too, liked to draw. Earlier this year Open Culture posted some of the writer's Jazz Age-inspired illustrations. More may be seen here.

✦ Award-winning photographer Aaron Huey's new project is Honor the Treaties, a national organization "dedicated to amplifying the voices of Indigenous communities through art and advocacy." The organization has an ongoing call for Native artists to submit applications for grants or to participate in art collaborations.

✦ The exhibition "Women Painting Women: (R)evolution" concluded October 18 at Principle Gallery, Alexandria, Virginia. The show (each year, an artist from the Women Painting Women group invites a new artist to exhibit with her) featured new figurative work by dozens of marvelous painters. Deep Matter Publishing issued the catalogue. The video below presents one work by 32 of the artists. Take a look at the artists' individual Websites or blogs, or the pages of the galleries that represent them; you will be well-rewarded.
