Thought for the Day

Part of the job of a great journalist, a great storyteller, is to
examine the stories that underlie the story that you're assigned,
maybe to make them visible, and sometimes to break us
free of them. Break the story. . . .
~ Rebecca Solnit

Quoted from "To Break the Story, You Must Break the Status Quo | Rebecca Solnit on Why Journalists Need to Cause Trouble", Literary Hub (This essay, adapted from Solnit's 2016 commencement address at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, is excellent.)

Sometimes, I wish more journalists would break the status quo -- too often it feels like they must write to their paper's politics or newsrooms sensibilities.
