This quote nourishes my heart and soul and lifts my spirit!
The thing I love about the little I know about him; he not only had passion, he moved others to the same degree of passion. That's brilliant. He moved the heart of people who had the wherewithal to take action to save the beauty for us. That is useful passion. I will follow some of these trails here.

A fascinating man. My in-laws made a trip out west and visited Muir Woods a few years back. I got a t-shirt.

My father took me walking I'm sure before I could walk. He loved the woods. He tried hunting for a while, but then went back to just exploring. I helped him with that first deer. I gave him two books on John Muir once - I believe they were both from his personal journals. I may be the only one who ever reads them. He wasn't big on reading. I will have to bring them back with me next time I am home.
One of my favorite trips was to Yosemite, though he was not with me that time. I hope I can go there again someday, because I just could not take it all in for the day or so I was there.

This reminds me of the slogan of Little Brothers (formerly, Little Brothers of the Poor--Friends of the Elderly). My husband used to work for them, and so we heard it often: "Flowers before bread."
