Saturday Sharing (My Finds Are Yours)

Today's edition is nothing if not eclectic. You'll find links to literary Web journals and magazines, fascinating projects at MIT's Media Lab, harmonic overtone singing, and fingerpainting with sound.

✦ The MIT Media Lab is conducting online a crowd-sourcing project, Place Pulse: Creating a Collaborative Image of the City, the objective of which is to identify perceptions of what gives streets "curb appeal" and thus appear to be "safer". Take a look at the choices and rankings. The project hopes to garner a million unique users' answers and demo responses visually at a Place Pulse exhibit at Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, from September 3 to October 22.

The Media Lab conducts some fascinating projects. Of particular interest currently are the health-monitoring mirror that displays heart rate; an eyepiece attached to a cell phone to detect and quantify cataracts, called CATRA (video); carpal skin, a prototype for a protective glove to protect against carpal tunnel syndrome; digital clay combining gesture, touch, and click interfaces; the center for mobile learning; and intelligent neurotechnology engineering.

✦ A nationally distributed, graduate-student run literary journal, Lit Magazine publishes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction prose.
