Thought for the Day

. . . poets not only find the words
that remind us of history, but the history
that is yet to come.
~ Poet Martin Espada*

* Quoted from "On 9/11 and the Politics of Language — An Interview with Martin Espada" at Solidarity, September/October 2011. I recommend reading the entire interview. Espada offers much worth considering and says much that is wonderfully quotable. Referenced and discussed in the interview, the poem, "Alabanza: In Praise of Local 100", is here. It's a marvelous poem, also found in Espada's collection Alabanza: New & Selected Poems (W.W. Norton, 2003).

That's a lot for a few short stanzas to carry.

Must be why poetry is so deep.

Always enjoy your Sunday sayings. The video with the birds is breathtaking in its detail.

Extremely important. It's beautiful to think of the present/future that way (and a little scary)---the history that will happen and is happening.
