The short today is the official trailer for The Imitation Game, based on Andrew Hodges's 2012 biography Alan Turing: The Enigma. The film, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing, will premiere at London Film Festival October 8 and be released more widely November 21.
Alan Turing (1912-1954) is called the "Father of Computer Science"; an expert in artificial intelligence, he was also highly adept at code-breaking. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Princeton University at age 26. He committed suicide two years after being charged with homosexuality, a crime in England in 1952. Queen Elizabeth II pardoned Alan Turing of "gross indecency" in December 2013. (Read "Royal Pardon for Codebreaker Alan Turing", BBC, 24 December 2013.)
Princeton University Press plans to release a tie-in paperback later this year.
