Below is the wonderful Sitka: A Piano Documentary by H. Paul Moon (Zen Violence Films). The film beautifully relates the rebuilding of the Steinway piano that is used at my favorite Washington, D.C., art museum, The Phillips Collection, in its excellent concert series. Known as the "Sitka", the piano's original soundboard was made from a 600-800-year old Sitka spruce tree from Alaska, according to music director Caroline Mousset.
The rebuilding was done by masters at PianoCraft of Gaithersburg, Maryland.
My thanks to Experiment Station, The Phillips Collection's blog, for the video.
