Wednesday Wonder: Alessandro Brighetti

In the work of artist Alessandro Brighetti, who grew up in a family of doctors and studied to be a painter, art and science merge uniquely to produce work that is as fascinating as it is strange. The video below documents a recent project, Schizophrenia (2012), in which the artist achieves, without digital interventions, the manipulation of a ferrofluid created with the help of a chemist; the oily solution is electromagnetically stimulated so that it propels itself over and through the form (which looks like a skull) in the tray.

Brighetti was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1978. His work has been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions throughout Italy.

Links to videos (on Vimeo) of Brighetti's other recent projects are found here.

My thanks to Coolhunting where I first came across the artist's current work.
