Monday Muse: John Scott Films Bishop Poems

Award-winning independent filmmaker and television producer John D. Scott, founder of Magpie Productions, has created two short films using poems of Elizabeth Bishop. Scott's intention is to make the shorts part of a project he tentatively has titled "Elizabeth Bishop and the Art of Losing".

Below is Scott's short videopoem of Bishop's "Sandpiper":

Here's Scott's videopoem of Bishop's "One Art", a famous villanelle:

My thanks to Dave Bonta from whom I learned of Scott's project.

the sandpiper...it was a little too flashy for my poor old brain but...i did like the person's voice.

the one art...it wasn't a disaster.

Fascinating and a bit perplexing in some ways.

Loved this combination of Bishop's poem and the video capture of the sandpiper's world. How interesting,

Thanks so much
