In Church Together
The old oak seat holds
our chapters and verse
of months of Sundays
spent side by side,
first eating His bread
then drinking the wine.
We bowed heads
in this communion,
consuming faith in words
given to one in love
of another, each time as if
newly received, our hands
tendered for accepting.
Our vows made the frame
we, reckless, un-built the way
hurricanes rush in,
defining themselves
forever by what they take,
not what remains behind.
We have not sat since
in church together.

broken apart
a parting of ways
of days
and forever
Yet He sits among us in it all.
So clear and such a good narrative line. Starting with the oaken seat that should last...going through the "unbuilding" up to the lonely ending.
This really captures the loss.
After such care with the construction of that church, a symbol of community, of being together - that impact of the final image, that realization of loss, is all the more palpable.
