Having Words (Poem)

Having Words

I lack thick skin to take
your un-penned words,

your mouth opening so
quickly, catching me so

by surprise, calling me
what you'd dared not

risk to argue in ink, as if,
less sense-worthy, ears

forget what fills a space
in the heart of the mind.

Oaths, like stones cast
to ping and pit glass once

seen through clearly,
resound there, every one

a surface crack widening
into more lost ground.

If we could but be a little bit more careful with those words we throw around like daggers... If everything had to be handwritten on parchment with fountain pens I'm sure we would have less conflicts..

In the heart of the mind - what a line. This is a really moving piece for me. Wow.

Oaths, like stones cast
to ping and pit glass once

two lines that shook me - the last two as well...

Our words tend to create themselves out of our unconscious dreams and spiritualism.

Amazing poem. :)

I have hearing difficulty in my left ear, and these words come through clearly, loud:

"as if,
less sense-worthy, ears

forget what fills a space
in the heart of the mind"

I always admire your careful language, your precision with words so astute, so precise. I suspect you are equally careful with your spoken words; so little wonder you could be wounded by the careless, thoughtless words of an other.

Careless words spoken in haste has to be one of the universal regrets. Certainly so for me.

Admire your work, as always.

If we could only delete words before they are spoken.

Goodness me, how strange it is that this poem relfects something I was pondering on this morning. How true it is - sometimes people think that speaking is less permanent than writing, when inflicting pain and hurt. I don't tend to hold grudges, but I can remember some things spoken a long time ago, as if they happened only today.

I feel the "ouch" of this.
