'Leave It All Up to Me', by Major Jackson

During National Poetry Month, I'll be sharing some video interpretations of poems and providing brief biographical information about the poets. Today's videopoem, by Bryan Hartzell, features Major Jackson's "Leave It All Up to Me", a stop-motion whiteboard animation.

The poem is from Jackson's collection Holding Company.

Major Jackson is the author, most recently, of Roll Deep: Poems (W.W. Norton, 2015). His other collections are Holding Company (W.W. Norton, 2010; paper, 2012), Hoops (W.W. Norton, 2006, 2007), and Leaving Saturn (University of Georgia Press, 2002), his debut book. The second and third titles were finalists for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature - Poetry, while the fourth was awarded a Cave Canem Poetry Prize (2000) and was a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist (2002).

Jackson, recipient of a 2013 Guggenheim Fellowship and numerous other honors, currently is the poetry editor of Harvard Review.
