Saturday Sharing (My Finds Are Yours)

Saturday Sharing can't say where you find leaves falling first but stick with this edition and you'll learn some history, get a shot or two of Mars, find out about careers in digital media, and be instructed in how to make an electronic bookplate.

✦ History buffs will like the Hall of Fame for Great Americans at Bronx Community College. If you can't make it to New York, sign on for the online tour and watch this virtual reality movie. There are nearly 100 bronze busts of inventors, scientists, artists, writers, musicians, explorers, and others worthy of remembering.

✦ Books and life or life and books are the subject of Gil Roth's monthly Virtual Memories Show at Chimera Obscura. The podcasts can be accessed in a number of ways, including via iTunes and e-mail. The show's Archive is here.

✦ If you don't want to miss a thing Curiosity finds on the Red Planet, check into NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory for Mars and then follow the Martian rover on Twitter. Either will take you out of this world.

Raw Images and Interactives

✦ A collection of work by contemporary Southern California writers and text-artists, The L.A. Telephone Book, Vol. 1, 2001-12 is available for download (free). Poet and digital artist Brian Kim Stefans compiled and designed the collection. Among the contributors are Rae Armantrout and Johanna Drucker. (My thanks to Harriet Poetry blog for the link.)

✦ The nonprofit Exposure Camp is an educational program for middle- and high-school students who are interested in pursuing a creative career using digital and social media. (My thanks to Design Sponge blog for the link.)

✦ You'll never (well, maybe never) lose your electronics again if you follow Design*Sponge's step-by-step guide to creating an electronic bookplate.

Thanks for the link to Mars -- I'm out of this world, over the moon with excitement to be following it on Twitter! :)

Maureen ... you always gift us with such a rich and eclectic basket of things to think about, visit, explore and marvel at.

Today I'm going to make an electronic bookplate. How fun.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing my podcast! I'm just editing a new episode featuring a long conversation with Michael Dirda, the Pulitzer-winning book critic who used to run the Washington Post's Book World feature. That should go live mid-week!

(and drop me a line if you have suggestions for guests!)
