Andy Ilachinski, Skies of Skye
how in the gloaming
the roistering clouds
pitch their weights in grayscale
remark themselves on swells
of pinpricked sea
glinting rocks barnacled
in slips of mangling weed
rooted
below surface
clinging
how your own eyes once
held fast
watchful
wanting to be
witnessing
the light come up at the horizon line

You must intimately know the ocean. If I didn't intimately know and love the ocean I wouldn't be able to vicariously experience it, through your showing me. :)
Maureen, this flowed effortlessly, what a caption for a beautiful photo. Nicely done.
Gosh. Just read Glynn's poem. Two very different approaches, but I like them both very much. I may have to try this poetry thing one of these days...
As I've mentioned on my blog, I'm truly overwhelmed by the response to my humble little "Sky of Skye" photo! And the last poem of the day (before I turn in, anyway ;-) is among the best. Lyrical, soulful, beautiful! Thank you for taking the time to reflect, and add to the little ripples of creativity that journey onwards... (we seem to be in the same environs: northern VA). I'm assuming you've been to (know of?) Lorton Arts near Occoquan? I was part of their inaugural photo workhouse when they first opened up. They have a wonderful group of artists of all kinds there; well worth a visit.
I love your knowing of the sea... 'glinting rocks barnacled in slips of mangling weed' would be my favorite line.
Andy, thank you so much. Yes, I'm familiar with the Workhouse. I've visited there many times.
lovely Maureen always love reading your work...always challenges me to to better and think deeper...."wanting to be witnessing" beautiful...bkm
I love the language of this poem, Maureen. Just beautiful.
I've enjoyed the different works that have sprung from this photo and this project.
weaved with golden lace,
you created a canvas
sitting across the ocean,
on a shore.
I might never
set my feet on...
nevertheless
accept my gratitude...
for you created miracle
a sign of hope
for the desolate standing
on the other side of the frame...
regards,
wanderer
"mangling weed......" wow that was some line.....this was a wonderful read...cheers pete
