Today's short is John Adams's lovely Harmonielehre, Part 3, Barnett Newman (1984-1985). Edo de Waart conducts the San Francisco Symphony. All artworks are by Color Field painter Barnett Newman (1905-1970).
Adams composed Harmonielehre (roughly, "the book of harmony") as a commission for the "Meet the Composer Orchestra" program in which Adams was resident (the piece premiered and was recorded for Nonesuch in 1985). Read Adams's notes on his composition.
