Wooing Weather
Mount Sinabung erupts,
taking down a house of God
and the fields, ash-flocked,
go gray against green.
In old Porthcawl harbor,
the ocean breaks its back
on South Wales's coastline,
waves' angry brows arched
high as hills. Here at home
the polar vortex makes a pass
across plains, swoops South,
and nicks us North and East,
wind wasting the unwelcome
on Epiphany. Think Bulgarians
care? Who's first to grab that
cross in the icy lake likely won't
die of pneumonia. Twelfth's
the Night might niggle over loves
lost and found but who knows who
would ever woo in this weather.

Clever references and plays on words in this, Maureen. I enjoy proper names in poems, and no doubt we will all be writing more weather poems before this winter is over.
Great fun, Maureen -- as I hunker down indoors to avoid minus 3 temps outside (up here in western NY)
I love this, Maureen. Although, out here in California in 79 degrees weather, the wooing continues. :)
Timely! And weatherly!
well i certainly would not try to woo in the weather...frostbite for sure...and that would hurt...ha...its bitter cold here...nature does not make a dependable lover either...always surprising in her ferocity...
The image of the volcano is striking in this piece. The description of how it affects everything around it, so real.

What a word of weather woos --- great one...
beautiful imagery - from volcano to winter's deep freeze... but yes, this weather is made for wooing... Nicely done!
Nicely done. Beautiful imagery. From volcano to deep freeze... but ahh, this is just the weather for wooing. Nice!
who would ever do ANYTHING in that weather. Heard it's supposed to 'warm up.' Hope so.We're snug here in Seattle at 46 degrees. Stay safe!
Very nice! Loved the imagery in this piece! I really liked the last stanza. :-)
the world, the weather we all hold on for - may we all prevail through...great piece of reporting...bkm
yes - we are all connected and influenced by the great calamities, even those so far away.
I liked the cadence and word choice.
you've taken us on a trip... in the most elegant way
A beautiful education in these words - (looked up a few). "Waves angry brows " is a pure treat, and wooing does occure becuase isn't June (or July) the biggest birthing month? :)
