✭ Ongoing at Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York, is an exhibition of work by Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011). On view through February 15, the 21-year survey. "Giving Up One's Mark: Helen Frankenthaler in the 1960s and 1970s", showcases some 17 paintings and a selection of works on paper, including monumental, mural-size canvases and much smaller paintings. An admission fee is charged to see this special exhibition. Workshops are scheduled January 13 and 17, and February 7 (check the exhibition link for details).
✭ Formerly of Yugoslavia and now an art professor at the University of Richmond (Virginia), Tanja Softic is exhibiting her gorgeous prints and drawings through March 21 at Turchin Center for the VisualArts at Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina. Concerned with "concepts of locating oneself in ever expanding notions of universe and society and the nature of memory", Softic describes her artistic vocabulary as including "elements of landscape, microscopic life forms, architectural details and renderings, obsolete geographical maps, astronomical charts, and anatomical fragments" that serve to visualize "displaced existence". See images of recent works on paper and her series 27 songs and Migrant Universe. Softic will be giving a talk about her work in the exhibition on February 6.

The exhibition continues through February 8.

Friends in England have told us "Mr. Turner" is outstanding.
Looking forward to the film, and how I wish I had time to continue with watercolour painting. Not enough lives.
